Anise Hyssop is in the Mint family; delicately aromatic, this is a fine tea herb with a sweet, anise flavour. This plant is an annual or short-lived upright herbaceous perennial, with beautiful flowering purple racemes, growing to 3 to 4 feet tall. Hardy in Zones 6 to 10; native to Ontario and the central and near-western US. This plant prefers full sun to part shade and moist, rich soils. Sow seed on surface, tamp in securely and keep evenly moist and in the light until germination, which occurs in 1 to 3 weeks. Thin or transplant to 1 to 2 feet apart.
